Lincoln County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate continued its slow decline in June, but remains a full percentage point above the state and national rates.
The county’s unemployment rate in June was 4.7 percent, according to Oregon Employment Department regional economist Erik Knoder, a decline from the rate of 4.9 percent in May. It was 7 percent in June 2021.
The statewide and national unemployment rates were 3.6 percent in June.
Knoder said that seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment in Lincoln County increased by 110 in June to 17,820 jobs. Seasonally adjusted figures compare expected changes with actual changes.
A gain of 400 jobs was expected for the month, he said, but the county’s total nonfarm employment rose by 510.
The private sector added 460 jobs and government employment climbed by 50. The leisure and hospitality sector added 300 jobs, food manufacturing grew by 80 jobs and state government added 40 jobs.
Lincoln County lost 4,880 jobs in April 2020 as the pandemic hit, Knoder said, and it remains 1,200 jobs below its pre-pandemic employment of June 2019.
