WALDPORT — The Waldport Seashore Literacy ukulele group has donated three automated external defibrillators to the city of Waldport.
The defibrillators, which cost $2,263 each, will be placed at city hall, library and the community center. The group plans to purchase more to place throughout the city using funds it collects from tips during performances.
The musical group, which is an offshoot of Seashore Family Literacy, purchased three other defibrillators, one of which will be placed at Café Chill where they play regularly, one at the DaNoble House where they practice, and the other will travel with the group to performances.
The group donated the defibrillators to Waldport during last week’s city council meeting. The band suffered the loss of a fellow musician in June to cardiac arrest, according to a press release.
“The group felt that if there had been an AED available, he may have had a better chance at survival,” the release said. “In response, and in his memory, they have taken a proactive approach; raising funds to place AED devices in spaces around town.”
Seashore Family Literacy is partnering with Partnership Against Alcohol & Drug Abuse to offer an educational event about the signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest at the DaNoble House at 6 p.m. Nov. 5. Dinner will be provided. For more information call 541-563-7323.
