A 63-year-old Eddyville man and an 11-year-old boy were killed early Thursday when their truck left Nashville Road and landed upside down in the Yaquina River.
Killed was William Coolbaugh of Eddyville. Oregon State Police did not identify his 11-year-old passenger in a news release Thursday evening.
Two other passengers in Coolbaugh’s Ford F350, Jacob Roberts, 37, of Eddyville, and a 15-year-old boy were taken to a hospital with injuries, police said.
State police said they were called to a single-vehicle accident at 8:07 a.m. Thursday on Oregon Highway 180 — Nashville Road — one mile east of Highway 20. Police said for unknown reasons Coolbaugh’s truck drove over the bank on the south side of the road and crashed upside down in the Yaquina River.
The highway was was closed for approximately six hours following the crash.
It was the third fatal crash in Lincoln County in eight days.
