A 29-year-old Toledo woman headed to work in Newport was killed Monday when a driver lost control of his truck, crossed into the westbound lane and collided with her small car.
Oregon State Police said Kayla Rhoades of Toledo died when the Ford F250 truck towing a 16-foot enclosed trailer collided with her Ford Fiesta on Oregon Highway 20 three miles east of Newport at 9:45 a.m.
The truck driver, Devin Shrum, 32, and his passenger, Lonnie Shrum, 64, both of Lebanon, were taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Police said Shrum’s trailer came loose and struck a westbound Dodge Magnum operated by Jeremy Lacewell, 43, of Toledo. Lacewell and his passenger, Jimmy Short, 36, of Toledo, were not injured.
