There are at least three opportunities in the next two weeks to hear from candidates in the two contested races for Lincoln County commission on the May 17 primary ballot.
- The Lincoln City Chamber of Commerce is holding an in-person forum for county commission candidates beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the Beach Club, 2020 N.E. 22nd St., Lincoln City. The luncheon is $18 for chamber members and $20 for others. Registration is required through the chamber’s website.
- Citizens for a Better Lincoln County are sponsoring a forum focusing on the environment at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 26 via Zoom. Twelve candidates – including candidates for Congress and the Oregon House — have confirmed to participate. Lincoln County voters have been moved from the Fifth Congressional District currently held by Kurt Schrader to the Fourth District, currently held by Peter DeFazio who is retiring. Six candidates have confirmed to appear: Sami Al-Abdrabbuh and Jake Matthews, both of Corvallis; Andrew Kalloch, Doyle E. Canning, Val Hoyle and G. Tommy Smith, all of Eugene. Also appearing is Rep. David Gomberg, D-Otis, who is unopposed in the Oregon House District 10 primary. Five of eight candidates for Lincoln County commission have confirmed to appear: Position 1: Greg Holland of Waldport, and Casey Miller and Carter McEntee of Newport; Position 3: Kaety Jacobson and Ryan Parker of Newport.
- The Newport Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a virtual forum for county commission candidates for noon May 4.
The eight commission candidates already appeared in an online question-and-answer forum sponsored by the Lincoln County League of Women Voters. A recording of that two-hour forum is on the organization’s website.
