Susie M. Charnik
April 8, 1928 – Dec. 15, 2024
Susie Marie Charnik, 96, originally from Los Osos, Calif., peacefully passed away Dec. 15, 2024, in Yachats.
She had recently moved to Oregon to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and great-granddaughter.
Although her time in Oregon was short, she was treated like royalty by Robin and the staff at Sea Aire Assisted Living in Yachats. Anyone who met Susie was instantly drawn to her kind smile and warm presence.
Born on Easter Sunday April 8, 1928, in Camden, N.J., Susie shared her birthdate with the Italian Saint’s holiday, Lady of Asunta. She was named after the saint at birth, but when she started school her name was changed to Susie, as it was considered more American. Both her parents, Liveno “Luigi” De Vincentis and Elisa “Elizabeth” Toro, were from Italy and immigrated to America through Ellis Island.
In the 1980s, Susie and her husband, Michael Charnik, owned and operated the Cozy Corner Café in Los Osos for about 10 years.
The family is grateful to everyone at Sea Aire Assisted Living, Evergreen Hospice, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their compassionate care and blessings. A service in California will be scheduled in the near future.
