The Confederated Tribes of the Siletz and two other Oregon tribes have secured more than $2.3 million in federal grants to provide services and promote justice for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and trafficking.
The grants are from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians received $990,098, the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde is getting $750,000 and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation $598,586.
The grants were announced Friday by Oregon senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley.
“We would like to thank the U.S. Department of Justice and their Violence Against Women Office for making these essential resources available to tribes,” Dana Ainam, social services manager for the Grand Ronde tribe said in a statement. “With this funding we can continue to build support and bring services to domestic abuse survivors within our Tribe and our community while continuing to advocate for their needs.”
