SILETZ – The Confederated Tribes of the Siletz is one of three Oregon tribal organizations to receive a total of $1.6 million from the U.S. Office on Violence Against Women to continue to provide victim and intervention services after sexual violence on tribal lands.
The Siletz is receiving $525,000 to create, maintain, and expand sustainable tribal sexual assault services, according to a news release from Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley.
The Klamath Tribes are receiving $447,000 and the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission $650,617 to respond to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and stalking in their communities.
Siletz Tribal chair Delores Pigsley thanked Wyden and Merkley for directing grants to Oregon, saying the federal Violence Against Women Act “has been underfunded since its inception. The tribe will be more proactive in our assistance for our members.”
