Oregon Sea Grant is again offering its popular “Shop at the Dock” tours in Newport beginning Friday, July 19 and has expanded the tours to five other ports in Oregon and southwest Washington.
The Newport tours will be offered Fridays at 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. from July 19 through Aug. 16. The tours are free, no ticket is necessary and the tours are first come, first served. The Newport tours meet at Dock 5 at the Port of Newport on Southwest Bay Boulevard in Newport.
People with groups of five or more should call 541-648-6816 ahead of time to make arrangements. Tours may be possible at additional times, as needed, for larger groups.
During the tours, people learn where to find local seafood, what’s in season, how it’s caught, if it’s sustainable, and how to purchase high-quality seafood directly from fishermen at ports along the Oregon coast.
The tours are being expanded to Ilwaco, Wash., Garbaldi, Charleston, Port Orford and Brookings. While there is no ticket necessary for tours in Newport, for all other locations organizers are asking people to reserve a free ticket here.
If you can’t make it to one of the tours, you can go to this Oregon Sea Grant website on how to buy fresh seafood from a fishing boat.

I wonder how the start of paid parking on Newport’s bay front will affect people’s ability to go on these tours?

at a dollar an hour its little burden, and definitely increases the chance that you might find a place to park
