Lincoln County search and rescue crews found a 60-year-old Waldport woman dead in the surf at the mouth of the Alsea River on Friday night, five hours after she was reported missing from an afternoon walk on the beach.
In a news release Sunday, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office did not indicate an apparent cause of death of Toni L. Goessman, but said it did not appear suspicious.
Goessman’s husband, Steve, called the sheriff’s office at 5:17 p.m. Friday to report that his wife had been missing for at least two hours during a walk on the beach and that one of their Boxer dogs had returned home soaking wet. Steve Goessman drove around the area, but was unable to search the beach because of limited mobility, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies conducted a preliminary search and then called the sheriff’s search team and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The news release said search team members found Goessman at 10:32 p.m. in the surf near the mouth of the Alsea River. One of her dogs, a brown Boxer, was also missing.
In her online Linkedin account, Goessman said she was a technology project manager and active in rescue of Boxer dogs.
