TENMILE – An unidentified man driving a truck with Florida license plates is a Springfield hospital with a head injury after being rescued Saturday evening from a ravine off Fairview Mountain Road just north of the Rock Creek campground.
The rescue drew responses from the Lincoln County Technical Rescue Team, comprised of firefighter/paramedics from Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue, North Lincoln Fire & Rescue, and the Newport and Toledo fire departments.
But as the rescue team arrived, crews from Western Lane Fire & EMS in Florence were able to reach the truck 150 yards below the road and take the injured man directly out to U.S. Highway 101. The road is above and just north of Rock Creek, 10 miles south of Yachats in northern Lane County.
The man was eventually airlifted to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, said Matt House, division chief for Western Lane Fire.
House said the man carried no identification. Someone else driving the road noticed the truck’s tire tracks leaving the road and called 9-1-1 at 6:35 p.m. Saturday. “Thankfully, someone noticed the tracks,” House said.
Crews were there for three hours.
