WALDPORT – Have a pile of poisons in your garage, a drawer full of old batteries, or florescent lights stacked in a corner? You can get rid of them for free Saturday in Waldport.
The Lincoln County Sold Waste District and county garbage haulers are sponsoring their annual hazardous waste collection day – and this year the event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Dahl Disposal’s transfer station off Crestline Drive in Waldport. The event rotates yearly between Lincoln City, Newport, Toledo and Waldport.
Materials accepted include:
- All types of poisons including pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides;
- Heavy metals including mercury and products containing elemental mercury including fluorescent tubes;
- Corrosives, including acids;
- Batteries: Old batteries including lithium products because old lithium batteries are recyclable and pose a risk of fire when put in the garbage.
What’s not accepted includes containers larger than 5 gallons, propane cylinders, needles or medications, and explosives such as bullets, fireworks, flares/aerial flares.
The event is not open to commercial haulers without a prearranged appointment
Solid waste officials ask that people dropping off material keep them in their original containers whenever possible, to not mix products in one container; and to not put items in plastic bags.
Containers and boxes, including gasoline cans, cannot be returned.
People planning to drop off hazardous materials Saturday can also make a reservation to do so by emailing solidwaste@co.lincoln.or.us before Thursday, July 27.
