OTIS – A 15-year-old Otis boy was killed Oct. 3 after the dirt bike he was riding collided head-on with a FedEx delivery truck on North Maple Drive, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said this week.
First responders reported that Shaun J. Hart had died at the scene when they arrived about 12:50 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. Deputies said the FedEx driver immediately called 911 after the collision and attempted first aid.
A preliminary investigation by the Lincoln County Multi-Agency Crash Team revealed the dirt bike was traveling east on North Maple Drive while the delivery truck was traveling west when they collided. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said, “but at this time there is no indication drugs or alcohol played a factor.”

My deepest heartfelt apology for the family grieving with the loss of life. I’m so sorry about how hard and difficult this must be for all of the family and friends involved. Please reach out during this time and know there are many who care for you. Stay strong and cherish each other. I want to say my deepest apologies also go out to the delivery driver as well. You did your best in the situation and there is nobody to blame in this tragedy. All of you are loved by many. Don’t be afraid to grieve and remember to take care of yourselves don’t let this swallow your hope and future as I could see that being so heavy to carry around with you. I say these words as I would hope someone would do the same if I was in this situation. My prayers are with all of you
