Narrative Summary
On 11/01/19 at approximately 13:09 PM, the Oregon State Police responded to a driving complaint at the Brian Booth State Wayside. A witness had flagged down a Pacific West Ambulance after following a possible intoxicated driver southbound on US Highway 101 from Newport, OR. The driver of a blue 1994 Chevrolet pick-up was having difficulty maintaining the vehicle in its lane and was driving at erratic speeds. The pick-up pulled over to the shoulder at Brian Booth State Wayside and drove into the grass. The vehicle was stuck on a boulder and the driver was attempting to drive away, when the witness made contact and prevented him from driving further. The driver showed signs of impairment but was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital via ambulance. An intoxicated female passenger was riding in the bed of the pick-up with her dog, but left on foot once a Lincoln County Deputy arrived at the scene. She was later located and interviewed. The driver was later contacted at the hospital and showed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking wine earlier in the morning. The driver was arrested for DUII, Reckless Endangering, and Failure to Report as a Sex Offender while at the hospital. The driver consented to and provided a blood sample. The driver was cited and released for the above charges. The vehicle was left in the possession of the passenger and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office assisted in getting her and the vehicle taken care of.
