Police arrested a 28-year-old Newport man Sunday in California on accusations he attempted to kill another Newport man last week while their fishing vessel was undergoing repairs in Astoria.
Astoria police said Monday that Dylan X. Campana, 28, of Newport was captured Sunday at a home in Morro Bay, Calif. by local police and the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT Team.
Police had been searching for Campana after Trisan Dockins, 23, of Newport was found with serious injuries Thursday at the Port of Astoria boatyard where the F/V Tommy John was undergoing emergency repairs. The incident was investigated as an attempted murder due to the severity of the victim’s wounds, police said.
Dockins is in stable condition at a Portland area hospital. Campana is awaiting extradition to Oregon.
On Monday, Astoria police also arrested Ryan Campana, Campana’s father and captain of the boat the suspect and victim had been working on, for hindering prosecution.
The Astoria Fire paramedics were dispatched to Pier 3 of the Port of Astoria boatyard for a report of a man injured in a fall last Thursday. On arrival, they determined Dockins’ injuries were not caused by a fall. At the time, police said Campana was considered armed and dangerous due to his history of threats toward law enforcement and history of violent offenses.
