WALDPORT — Applications for matsutake mushroom collection permits for the Central Coast ranger district of the Siuslaw National Forest are now open.
Every year, 100 commercial-use permits are available on a first come, first served basis. Any person wishing to obtain a commercial matsutake collection permit should complete a request form by Aug. 21.
A commercial use permit costs $250 and is required for any individual gathering more than six matsutake mushrooms per day or for anyone gathering to sell. Permits are valid from the date of sale through Dec. 31.
Request forms can be mailed, filled out in person, or sent by email. Download and print the request form from the Siuslaw Forest’s website in English or Spanish.
Permits will be distributed in the order in which they were received starting Aug. 28 and applicants will be notified by phone if their permit was approval.
After Aug. 28, any remaining permits will be issued in person from the Waldport and Reedsport district offices.
Pickers may also visit the website for additional information about mushroom collection on the Siuslaw National Forest or contact the Reedsport office at 541-271-6000 or the Waldport office at 541-563-8400.
