The U.S. Forest Service is waiving recreation fees at most day-use sites across the Siuslaw National Forest and its other properties in Oregon and Washington on Monday, Jan. 20, in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
This fee waiver is designed to allow more people to experience the recreational opportunities offered on national forests and is also part of a National Day of Service to promote volunteer work on public lands.
The fee waiver applies to many Forest Service dayuse sites, including picnic areas, most boat launches, trailheads and visitor centers. Fees for camping, cabin rentals, and other permits still apply, the agency said, and sites operated by concessionaires may continue to charge fees unless they choose to participate.
Monday is the first of five fee-free days offered by the Forest Service in 2025. Other dates are June 14, June 19, Sept. 27 and Nov. 11.
