YACHATS — LeeAnn McKenna of Yachats and Nancy Durham of Depoe Bay will perform in a concert with their world music ensemble at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27 at Yachats Community Presbyterian Church.
The group “Thousand Waves” will offer a selection of compositions from North and South America and Japan. In its first concert on the coast, Thousand Waves will play “Western baroque and some jazz,” said McKenna, who has been performing and teaching the flute for 50 years.
Thousand Waves members include Durham, a percussionist, guitarist Peter Zisa and Yukiko Zisa on the koto, a zither-like stringed instrument. “It’s a different sound than people are used to hearing,” said McKenna.
The group’s name is symbolic of the distance between North America and Japan. Zisa founded Thousand Waves 20 years ago to offer a blend of the sounds of the koto with guitar, flute and percussion.
The concert has a suggested donation of $20. More information is available by email (casadellazisa@gmail.com) or by calling 503-307-4907.
