Lincoln County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in April, unchanged from 4.6 percent rate in March, the Oregon Employment Department announced this week. The unemployment rate was 4.2 percent the year before.
The statewide unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in April, the agency said, and the national rate was 3.9 percent.
The agency’s regional economist, Shaun Barrick, said that seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment in the county decreased by 210 in April to 18,500 jobs. Seasonally adjusted figures compare expected changes with actual changes. A gain of 420 jobs was expected for the month, but the county’s total nonfarm employment increased by 210.
Barrick said the private sector gained 210 jobs with leisure and hospitality adding 110 jobs in April and financial activities adding 30 jobs. Local education decreased by 20.
April’s total employment numbers in the county were essentially unchanged from one year before with a gain of 20 jobs, Barrick said. The number of jobs in private education and health services was up 20 over the year in April but leisure and hospitality shed 120 jobs over the year. Local government, including tribal and education, added 160 jobs over the past year, Barrick said.
