Lincoln County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.8 percent in December, unchanged from 4.8 percent in November and October, according to the latest figures from the Oregon Employment Department. The county’s unemployment rate was 4.3 percent in December 2023.
The statewide and national unemployment rates were 4.1 percent in December.
Regional economist Shaun Barrick said seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment increased by 60 in December to 18,700 jobs. Seasonally adjusted figures compare expected changes with actual changes. A loss of 290 jobs was expected for the month.
Barrick said the county’s total nonfarm employment decreased by 230 in December, with a loss of 180 jobs in the private sector, and a loss of 50 jobs in government. Leisure and hospitality lost 160 jobs, manufacturing lost 30 jobs and local education lost 50 jobs.
December’s total nonfarm employment numbers were down by 120 jobs over the year, a decrease of 0.7 percent, Barrick said.
During all of 2024, the largest gains occurred in professional and business services which rose by 70 jobs and local government, excluding tribal and education, added 80 jobs. Manufacturing lost 190 jobs in 2024, Barrick said, and financial activities shed 80 jobs.
