The unemployment rate in Lincoln County stayed at 4.7 percent in July, according to the Oregon Employment Department’s regional economist, and remains significantly above the rates across Oregon and the United States.
The county adjusted unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in July, unchanged from 4.7 percent in June, according to economist Erik Knoder. It was 6.7 percent in July 2021. The statewide unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in July, the same as the national rate.
Knoder said seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 130 in July to 17,700 jobs. Seasonally adjusted figures compare expected changes with actual changes. A gain of 260 jobs was expected for the month, but the county’s total nonfarm employment rose by only 130.
The private sector added 210 jobs, Knoder said, and government employment dropped by 80. The leisure and hospitality sector added 240 jobs. Professional and business services grew by 30 jobs. Local government education cut 110 jobs over the summer break. Private education and health services trimmed 60 jobs. Other industries had small changes.
Knoder said that July’s total nonfarm employment numbers show a gain of 210 jobs compared with one year before, an increase of 1.2 percent. The county lost 4,880 jobs in April 2020 as the pandemic hit, and it remains 930 jobs below its pre-pandemic employment of July 2019
