Yes, there is a free ride.
Lincoln County Transit has announced a new program that allows any high school student a free ride anywhere in the county. This includes Waldport High School, Toledo High School, Newport High School, Taft High School, Lincoln City Career Tech High School, Siletz Valley High School, and Eddyville Charter High School.
“This will open many opportunities for students from after-school events to summer jobs,” said Cynda Bruce, director of Lincoln County Transit. “We look forward to watching our students become familiar with the transit system. Any student in high school will simply need to display their current student body card to the driver as they enter the bus.”
Funds for the project came from a state program to expand public transportation in Oregon.
The Lincoln County School District said for students without a reliable source of transportation, the new bus program will allow for more security to attend after-school functions, travel to work on a schedule, or go to shopping areas.
