The Lincoln County Cultural Coalition has awarded $26,500 in grants to 14 local nonprofits and schools, the organization announced this week.
The coalition administers funding from two independent sources — the Lincoln County Cultural grants, which are allocated through funding from the Oregon Cultural Trust, and Sponenburgh Memorial Trust grants in honor of Mark R. Sponenburgh, who was a sculptor, art historian and collector, philanthropist and one of the famed “Monuments Men” during World War II.
Lincoln County Cultural grants are awarded to nonprofits involved in arts, culture, heritage, or humanities projects that aim to improve access to cultural experiences, raise the level of cultural awareness for youth, and/or facilitate infrastructure improvements.
Grants totaling more than $11,000 were awarded to Conexion Fenix Ballet Folklorico for general support; Herencia Mexicana Folklorico to help stage “Dones Jarochos: Dances from Veracruz”; the Oregon Coast Aquarium for its salmon run art installation; KYAQ Radio for musician funding; Oregon Arts Watch to support arts coverage in Lincoln County; Siletz Valley Friends of the Library to help restore the library’s parking lot; and Lincoln County Historical Society for its “Our Beautiful and Wild Oregon Fisheries, 150 Years of Innovation” exhibit.
Sponenburgh Memorial Trust grants are awarded to nonprofits and public entities whose projects are focused on arts instruction for elementary and middle school-aged children in Lincoln County, with a priority on music education.
Grants totaling more than $15,000 were awarded to St. James Santiago School for its music of Africa workshops; Lincoln City Cultural Center to support its summer art camp; Newport Symphony Orchestra for its student access program; Siletz Bay Music Festival for its free family concerts; Oregon Coast Youth Symphony Festival for its chamber music concert series; Coastal Voices school choral program; and the Oregon Coast Children’s Theatre and Center for its ceramic and mosaic mural project.
