YACHATS — Colorful, original art banners have decorated downtown Yachats all summer and now they’ll all be up for auction Saturday, Oct. 7.
From 5-6:30 p.m. in the Commons, people can view all 34 banners created by local artists, meet many of the artists themselves, and bid on the works. The auction will be conducted by Polly Plumb Productions, a Yachats non-profit that sponsors cultural events in the city.
Proceeds will help fund next year’s banner project, as well as art supplies for the Waldport High School art department.
Under the theme “Always a Long Story in Yachats,” this year’s banners range from seascapes to bigfoot, kite-flying to sunsets, all on canvas, measuring about 18 by 48 inches. All the banners, with descriptions, can be viewed on the Polly Plumb website.
This year, the banners format was successfully modified to help protect against strong wind and rain. “The banners resisted the weather really well and they’re in good shape,” said Michael Guerriero of Yachats, an artist who has managed the annual project for six years.
“We have a beautiful batch of colorful art banners” up for auction, he said, urging people interested to attend and make a piece of Yachats culture their own.
