To the editor:
As a former member of the Yachats City Council, I had the opportunity to spend time in Salem meeting with various members of the Oregon Legislature. It was my experience that most members pay lip service to wanting to hear from their constituents. I got the impression that they viewed this as a requirement of holding office, not as a chance to truly listen to and show interest in their constituents’ concerns.
Keep in mind that I was visiting as a member of a local governing body working with other local officials to raise awareness of critical issues here on the coast. I was not impressed by our reception.
In contrast I was always impressed with Rep. David Gomberg and his willingness to show up for numerous events both here in Yachats and in other venues up and down the coast. His presence has always indicated a willingness to listen and then act to help other governmental bodies and his constituents deal with issues of local concern.
I have never known any other politician who I truly felt had the welfare of those he represented first and foremost in his thoughts and actions. I urge everyone to vote for and support this outstanding legislator in the Nov. 8 election for Oregon House District 10.
