YACHATS — The rich and often overlooked history and legacy of African-Americans in Oregon is the topic of a 2 p.m. Sunday presentation at the Yachats Commons.
“Uncovering Oregon’s Black History, 450 Years in 45 Minutes,” will be presented by Zachary Stocks, executive director of Oregon Black Pioneers, a historical society dedicated to “safeguarding and sharing the experiences” of African-Americans across the state.
Stocks brings a wealth of expertise as a historian with a background that includes managing visitor services at the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle.
Yachats-based land conservation group View the Future, which is sponsoring the presentation, bills it as a “thought-provoking” and “engaging” journey of African-Americans across Oregon’s historical landscape.
A $5 donation for admission is suggested.
Morgen Brodie says
We’re so fortunate to have this opportunity. Deep thanks to View the Future for arranging it.
