WALDPORT – Waldport-area residents are expected to gather Saturday, Sept. 17 for the annual “Hands Across the Bridge” recovery event, part of a larger, countywide celebration of Recovery Month.
The “Hands Across the Bridge” event begins at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center. Participants then walk to the bridge where they celebrate their recovery or support for those in recovery.
“Gatherings like the Hands Across the Bridge event remind the community that addiction and mental health disorders can happen to anyone, and that recovery is possible,” the Lincoln County Health and Human Services Department said in a statement promoting the event.
The celebration continues from 12:30-2:30pm with a barbeque at the Waldport Community Center, 265 N.W. Hemlock St.
County health officials said every September communities around the nation hold events for the public to come together, explore resources, and share their stories.
