FLORENCE — Search and rescue crews recovered the body of a missing 31-year-old Florence surfer Thursday in the ocean near Heceta Beach, after he was reported missing Wednesday night.
A call about an overdue surfer came to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The county’s search and rescue personnel, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, began searching the area, according to Lane County Sgt. Thomas Speldrich.
Searchers found the body of Stefan R. Nutter of Florence in the water at around noon Thursday, not far from where he was believed to be riding, Speldrich said.
