A Cottage Grove man made his first appearance in Lincoln County Circuit Court last week after finally being arrested six months after he was indicted on manslaughter charges for a June wreck north of Seal Rock that killed his son.
Oregon State Police said Christopher B. Paschall, 51, was arrested Jan. 17 after troopers were notified by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife that he had felony warrants from Lincoln County. He was taken to the Lane County Jail, then transferred to Lincoln County, where he had his first court appearance. He is being held on $250,000 bond.
A Lincoln County grand jury last August issued a secret indictment for manslaughter, drunken driving and reckless driving.
Paschall was on U.S. Highway 101 north of Seal Rock on June 26 when his vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree. His son, James Paschall, 20, was a passenger and died at the scene.
According to James Paschall’s obituary, he had grown up in Nova Scotia, Canada but had recently returned to Oregon to work in construction with his father.
