A 64-year-old Tillamook woman apparently killed an older relative during the last several days before she shot and killed herself in an RV park in the South Beach area of Newport, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Deputies went to Whaler’s Rest RV & Camping Resort in South Beach early Wednesday to check on two guests after park staff reported the two occupants of a trailer had not been seen for several days.
Deputies believe that Charles W. Young, 87, of Tillamook had been shot and killed and that Carla C. Gustafson, also of Tillamook, was dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Based on the investigation, authorities believe Gustafson killed Young, before taking her own life. Authorities said Young and Gustafson are family members but did not detail that relationship.
The sheriff’s office said the motivation for the shooting is not clear.
