YACHATS — Applications for the vacant Yachats City Council position are due to city hall by 1 p.m. Monday, July 17. Only two people have applied so far.
Kathryn Torrence is a retired nurse with experience in consultation and facilitating work groups in documenting for providers best practices for patient outcomes.
Barry Collins is a retired attorney who spent the bulk of his career with a labor law firm in Chicago. He also has experience in multi-employer health and pension plans.
Neither has served on city commissions or committees.
On her application, Torrence listed water resources, affordable housing, recycling resources and wetland protection as the biggest issues facing the city. Collins listed affordable housing and lack of economic diversity as the biggest issues.
The vacancy on the council came about by the June 13 resignation of Ann Stott. Whomever is appointed will serve the remainder of Stott’s term, which ends Jan. 1, 2025. Applicants must be registered to vote in Oregon and have lived in Yachats for 12 months prior to appointment.
Council members meet twice a month for regular sessions and once a month for work sessions. Additional time commitments may include committee meetings, budget meetings and outside committee assignments.
No date is set for choosing a new council member.
