Four choir concerts over two weekends in May will mark the end of the performance season for Coastal Voices, formerly the Central Coast Chorale.
The concerts by the 50-voice community choir, themed “Spring Homage”, will take place in Newport, Yachats and Lincoln City:
- Saturday, May 4: Newport Performing Arts Center, $25;
- Sunday, May 5: Yachats Community Presbyterian Church, $20;
- Saturday, May 11: Chapel by the Sea, Lincoln City, $20; and
- Sunday, May 12: Lincoln City Cultural Center, $20.
All the concerts begin at 4 p.m. Admission is free for those age 17 and under.
The concerts will focus on differing aspects of spring, to include religious and spiritual works, and contemporary secular music by such artists as Harry Belafonte, Adele and Carly Simon.
The May 4 concert at the Newport Performing Arts Center will include a brief ceremony honoring Mary Lee Scoville, who served as director of the group from 1998-2020.
Continuing a tradition begun by Coastal Voices at their first post-pandemic concert, the choir and artistic director Rhodd Caldwell will lead the audience in a short sing-along following intermission.
Concert tickets are available online at the choir’s website or at the door.
The concert series is supported in part by the Braemar Charitable Trust, Roundhouse Foundation, Siletz Tribal Charitable Contributions Fund, and State Farm Insurance agent Jeff Schrantz.
