The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble isn’t letting the pandemic stop it from spreading a little holiday cheer.
The ensemble, comprised of coastal musicians, has scheduled an open-air performance of traditional carols and other seasonal favorites at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 at the former Yachats Rural Fire Protection District station on West Second Street in downtown Yachats.
The ensemble will play from inside the equipment bays while the audience will be sitting, standing or walking by outside.
Seating, if weather permits, will be sparse, the ensemble said in announcing the performance, so people are advised to bring camp chairs. Because of COVID-19 protocols, social distancing is necessary.
The concert will be a celebration of carols, medleys, and novelty numbers under the direction of Gary Cleasby of Yachats.
For many years, the band has given a holiday concert in the Yachats Commons, but had to cancel this year because of the pandemic. Band members felt a concert was needed to help raise holiday spirits, not only for the community, but also for the musicians themselves, said band member and publicist Eric Bigler of Waldport.
The concert is free, but the group is requesting a donation to South Lincoln Resources.
