The city of Yachats is taking further steps to resolve some of its building and space issues.
The Library Commission has officially ended its two-year study to determine if a move into the vacant 501 Building adjacent to The Commons because the move was prohibitively expensive. Instead it will work with an architect to develop plans to hopefully expand and remodel the current library building on West Seventh Street. A library-council subcommittee established a budget of $375,000 for the remodel. The estimate for moving the library to the 501 Building was $750,000 to $1 million.
At the same time, the City Council has authorized city Manager Shannon Beaucaire to work with an architect to develop plans to relocate city offices and a community meeting room to the 501 Building. Council members and staff say the current offices are not large enough for current or future employees and lacks adequate work space, privacy and storage.
The current city offices and council chambers would then be remodeled and opened for public use.
