TOLEDO — A 67-year-old commercial truck driver was killed late Sunday night after crashing his empty wood chip just east of Toledo on U.S. Highway 20.
Oregon State Police said David Damon of Shady Cove was in a Peterbilt truck towing an unloaded chip trailer east on Highway 20 when he drove onto the shoulder, over-corrected and crossed the westbound lane before striking several trees on the westbound shoulder about 11:55 p.m. Sunday
Damon died at the scene, police said. Lane use, seat belt use and distracted driving are being investigated as contributing factors, state police said in a news release.
The highway was closed for approximately eight hours following the crash.
