YACHATS — Cape Perpetua is not just a very scenic section of the central Oregon coast, it also has protections in place to help it stay that way.
The Cape Perpetua Collaborative has scheduled its 12th annual Land-Sea Symposium for 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31 in the Yachats Commons, featuring experts on fisheries, social science, the night sky, tide pools and birds related to the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and adjacent Siuslaw National Forest.
Speakers include Rick Colwell, professor emeritus at Oregon State University; Sarah Klain, human dimensions leader for the state’s marine reserves program; Jim King, director of Central Coast Food Web; Jamie Kish, associate and tidepool ambassador leader for the collaborative; and Roy Lowe, wildlife photographer and retired U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
The Cape Perpetua area is a biodiverse recreation destination, home to rainforests, deep cultural history and Oregon’s largest marine reserve. The collaborative is an organization giving voice to the special place through speaker presentations, ambassador programs and citizen science projects.
