SEAL ROCK – Residents of the Beaver Creek area who use South Beaver Creek Road to head north or south will have to take a bit of a detour the next four months.
On Monday, an Oregon Department of Transportation contractor will close a section of the road to begin replacing a 60-year-old wooden bridge as part of a $2.1 million project.
Closure signs were being set up Thursday and the road will be closed starting Monday so JAL Construction can setting up equipment, said ODOT spokeswoman Mindy McCartt.
The South Fork Beaver Creek bridge is a timber bridge and part of a U.S. 101 bypass between the areas of Bayview and Seal Rock. The bridge was built in 1961, is narrow and in poor condition, said McCartt, and is being replaced with a concrete bridge that has wider shoulders.
“We will need a full road closure for this project and the detour around will be to use U.S. Highway 101,” McCartt said.
The contractor anticipates having the road opened by early October.
