OTIS – A 21-year-old Beaverton man was killed Tuesday morning when the car in which he was riding left Oregon Highway 18 east of Otis, struck a tree and rolled over.
Oregon State Police say Jose Contreras-Gonzalez of Beaverton killed about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday when the westbound car driven by Gustavo Contreras-Gonzalez, 20, of Beaverton failed to negotiate a curve 12 miles east of Otis, crossed the opposing lane of travel, left the road, and struck a tree. The collision caused the vehicle to roll over onto the driver’s side.
Gustavo Contreras-Gonzalez and a second passenger, Jonathan Contreras-Gonzalez, 27, also of Beaverton, were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Traffic on the busy highway was impacted for six hours during the on-scene investigation. State police were assisted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies, Grand Ronde police and state highway crews.
