The Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife is helping people celebrate President’s Day weekend by dropping license and tag requirements — meaning that aAnyone can fish, clam and crab for free in Oregon on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18.
No fishing/shellfish licenses or tags are required those two days. Both Oregon residents and nonresidents can fish for free.
But, the agency warns, all other fishing regulations apply including closures, bag limits and size restrictions.
People can go online to Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations for rules and remember to check for any in season regulation changes, especially for salmon and steelhead fishing.
People can also check current conditions with ODFW’s in the Recreation Report Fishing Report, which is updated weekly and features the best bests for fishing for the upcoming week. Depending on water levels and conditions, fishing could be good for winter steelhead and trout are being stocked in the Willamette Valley and in the mid-coast area.
