Recreational crabbers in Alsea Bay and other spots along the Oregon coast have some new rules to follow starting Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission has instituted a new rule requiring crabbing buoys to be marked in a visible, legible and permanent manner to identify the owner of the crab pot or rings.
Oregon was previously the only West Coast state that did not have a rule requiring marked buoys for recreational crabbers.
According to the ODFW, all buoys now must have the first and last name or the business name of its owner. In addition, the buoy must have one of the following: the owner’s address, a phone number, their Oregon angler identification number, or a boat identification number.
