Because of hot dry weather, fire departments in Yachats, Waldport, Newport and Toledo have issued a ban on all outside burning such as campfires until Thursday.
The ban applies to wood, charcoal, and sources of other flames that cannot be turned off with a valve on public or private property. Liquid fuel stoves or cooking devices that can be turned off with a valve are permitted but cannot be left unattended, the agencies said.
Oregon State Parks has also issued a similar ban on fires in its campgrounds, including fires on ocean beaches, which fall under its jurisdiction.
The fire bans by Central Coast and Newport last until Thursday morning; the Yachats ban extends until Thursday night.
The fire danger along the immediate coast is listed as “high” until approximately 10 miles inland where it is listed as “extreme,” according to Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue.
The burn ban could be extended, depending on conditions Thursday, according to a news release from Central Coast Fire.
