A central Oregon coast insurance agency is one of 29 statewide awarded grants from the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace to help residents navigate medical coverage.
Abel Insurance, which has offices in Newport, Florence, Coos Bay and Gold Beach, was one of two coastal agencies to be selected for the program. The other was Linda Dugan Insurance in Astoria.
The state awarded $913,000 in grants to 14 community groups and 29 insurance agencies to help spread the word about the upcoming health insurance open enrollment period and help Oregonians enroll in coverage. Open enrollment runs from Nov. 1 through Jan. 15 for coverage in 2023.
The marketplace runs OregonHealthCare.gov and helps people get insurance when they do not have coverage available through work or do not qualify for the Oregon Health Plan, Medicare or other programs.
Only one coastal nonprofit, Waterfall Community Health Center in North Bend, was among the community groups selected.
