The Yachats Youth & Family Activities Program has received a $10,000 grant from Samaritan Health Services as part of the hospital group’s 2019 distribution of $450,000 to social service groups in three counties.
The organization, based in The Commons’ basement, offers year-round programs for children and their families. This includes a pre-school, an after-school recreation and learning program, monthly dinners for kids and their families focusing on literacy, summer camps, swim lessons and special events.
The hospital group said it awards grants in Lincoln, Benton and Linn counties as part of an effort to build healthier communities, giving to programs addressing unmet needs of underserved people. Groups in each county got $150,000.
Other Lincoln County organizations getting grants were: CASA of Lincoln and Tillamook Counties, $11,000; Communities Helping Addicts Negotiate Change Effectively, $9,800; Coastal Range Food Bank, $5,000; Head Start, $8,000; Food Share, $5,000; Lincoln County School District’s Joy Project, $12,700; Lincoln County School District’s LIFT program, $9,000; Lincoln County warming shelter (pending site approval), $7,500; Neighbors for Kids, $16,000; North End Senior Solutions, $6,000; Olalla Center for Children and Families, $9,000; Meals on Wheels, $20,000; Seashore Family Literacy, $8,000; and, Senior Corps, $13,000.
