“Remembrance, Re-Vision, and Renewal” is the theme of the 25th annual ceremony of renewal and commitment on Valentine’s Day, Friday, Feb. 14 at the Little Log Church in Yachats.
Both married and unmarried committed couples are offered the opportunity to renew their vows in a group setting. The ceremony will be offered at two times – noon and 5:30 p.m.
Mary Crook, the independent minister who has facilitated the event since the tradition began, said that hundreds of couples have come to Yachats to renew their vows over the years. “For some couples it is a first-time experience; for others it has become an annual tradition – something fun and meaningful to do on Valentine’s Day,” she said.
Violinist Ruth Mock of Yachats will provide music at the noon ceremony. Popular local guitarist Richard Sharpless will play a selection of romantic pieces at 5:30 p.m. Couples attending will be given a certificate as a memento of the occasion.
The Valentine’s Day vow renewal has become a popular fundraiser for the Little Log Church, which is scheduled to undergo a complete renovation. A donation to the museum of $20 per couple is suggested. Since space is limited, reservations are required by calling Crook at 541-547-4547.
The historic Little Log Church has been a landmark in Yachats for 90 years, and houses historic artifacts as well as being host to many weddings, artistic events, and small concerts. It is located at the corner of Southwest Third and Pontiac streets in the heart of town.
