Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies arrested three men the past week on a variety of charges from a child luring sting operation it conducted from late December to mid-January, the agency announced Thursday.
During the investigations, deputies posed as an underage girl on various online social media platforms and were contacted by men wanting to meet for sex. It is part of a ramped-up effort by the sheriff’s office to conduct the stings.
Deputies arrested Ruben Martinez Jimenez, 28, of Newport on Jan. 15 on charges of first-degree luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child. He posted $10,000 bail and was released under the condition to not use the internet. He is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 3.
Deputies arrested James T. Kirk, 32, of Siletz, on Jan. 16 on second-degree luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child as he made plans with the decoy to meet for sex. Kirk is in jail with bond at $300,000. His arraignment is Jan. 27.
Deputies arrested Adan Chavez-Pena, 43, of Newport on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and charged with first-degree luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child as he arrived at Agate Beach State Park to meet with what he thought was an underage child for sex. Chavez-Pena was also charged with seven other crimes dating back to 2007 after deputies were given fake identification and his real identity determined. He is being held on $950,000 bail. His arraignment is scheduled Jan. 29.
