NEWPORT – The Lincoln County School District board is looking for a new member from north end of the county.
Megan Cawley of Otis, who was first elected to the board in 2019 from Zone 1 and re-elected in 2023, resigned Tuesday. She did not state a reason to the board for her resignation.
The remaining four board members must fill the vacancy in Zone 1 by appointment and are accepting applications from Zone 1 residents interested in serving as an interim member through June. The board will hold a special session Jan. 6 to interview candidates and will vote on and swear in the interim board member at that same meeting.
Interested applicants must be residents of Zone 1, which consists of county voting precincts in Delake, Oceanlake, Sunset West, Sunset East and Rose Lodge, be a registered voter in the county, not a school district employee and participate in the interview and selection process.
The application can be found on the district’s website and can be submitted in person or electronically to board secretary, Eddie Symington (eddie.symington@lincoln.k12.or.us). Applications are due by 4 p.m. Dec. 16.
The Zone 1 appointment would be the second in the last six months. The board appointed Newport police chief Jason Malloy to the Zone 3 seat in July.
