SILETZ — A man accused of killing his mom Tuesday in Siletz told officials he did it because he thought she was a vampire, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday in Lincoln County circuit court.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Robert B. Poe, 56, just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on East Logsden Road in the middle of Siletz after they received a call from Poe saying he “accidentally killed his mom.” Deputies said they found Poe in the driveway of a home with blood on his hands and clothing while holding a bloody purse and letter that belonged to his mother, Judy D. Poe, 79.
Judy Poe was discovered about 30 minutes later 250 yards away near a 2004 Gold Chrysler PT Cruiser that appeared to be stuck in gravel. In a news release, the sheriff’s office said she had “sustained injuries from blunt force trauma to the head.”
The court affidavit said Poe told deputies he believed his mom was a vampire who would poke him at night and cause him to wake up with blood on his sheets.
Poe was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. His next court appearance is Wednesday.
Poe has a lengthy criminal record dating to 1991 involving drunken driving, theft, harassment, and drug possession charges in Lincoln, Lane and Douglas counties. Court documents indicated Poe lived in Molalla.
