BLODGETT – Michael R. Fetch, 61, of Hubbard was killed Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 20 near Blodgett when he pulled his truck out in front of an unloaded log truck, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Deputies said Fetch was stopped on Oregon 180 in his truck waiting to turn east on Highway 20 when he pulled out in front of a westbound log truck. The driver of the log truck could not avoid hitting the pickup, the sheriff’s office said.
Fetch was pronounced dead at the scene. The log truck driver was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis with minor injuries, deputies said. They did not identify him other than to say he was a 36-year-old man from Siletz.
Investigators said it did not appear that impairment or speed were factors in the crash. Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Deputy Erik Hesseling at erik.hesseling@bentoncountyor.gov or call 541-766-6858.
The highway was closed for approximately two hours during the investigation.
