Oregon State Police are asking the public to help it identify hunters who shot and wasted elk in two cases late last month in Lincoln County.
In a news release Wednesday, state police said a wildlife sergeant from the Newport responded to a Nov. 20 report of two spike bull elk that had been shot and killed in the Salmon River drainage in north Lincoln County.
Police said the first elk was in a clear cut at the edge of the timberline and the second was approximately 50 yards away just inside the timberline near milepost 10 on Murphy Road. Police believe the two spike bulls were shot on opening day Nov. 18 and left to waste.
The second incident involved a cow elk shot and left to waste in a clearing near Rudder Creek Road east of Logsden. That incident was also reported Nov. 20.
Anyone with information on either case is encouraged to contact the Oregon State Police Dispatch at 1-800-452-7888 or via email at TIP@osp.oregon.gov.
