YACHATS — Members of a popular local classic rock dance band Lisha & the Outlaws are hoping that their holiday event on Saturday will start a trend.
The popular club band, led by well-known local vocalist Lisha Rose, is presenting a special Sober Dance Party and Potluck at the Yachats Commons from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.
“Lisha has been wanting to do something like this for a long time, but it has been difficult to find an appropriate public venue for a free event like this,” said band spokesperson Cheri Capron. “We are hearing from many, especially younger, coasties that they need things to do and have a hard time meeting people who don’t drink.”
Guests at the all-ages event can choose to bring entrées, salads, veggies, snacks or desserts to the potluck event. Warm and cold non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.
“The venues that support affordable live music in this area are well-run and responsible and their support contributes enormously to the livability, cultural vitality and economic welfare of our communities,” said Chandler Davis, a retired mental health and addiction counselor, former chair of Lincoln County’s Addiction Prevention and Recovery Committee and active performing musician.
“But many people are uncomfortable, for a variety of reasons, with being in an environment where alcohol is dispensed,” he said. “They may wish to enjoy the robust local music scene with the whole family, including children and elders. They may not be able to afford the substantial admission fees at more formal music venues. They may be among the scores of single people in Lincoln County who have long complained of the difficulty of finding sober places to dance and meet people who don’t drink.”
The Sober Dance Party and Potluck will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Yachats Commons. For more information, call 541-961-3047.
